You're Invited

NASA is retiring the shuttle program next year. This means that if I'm going to see a shuttle launch, I have a small window to get it done in.
While I certainly would not turn down the chance to see Atlantis or Discovery, I'd prefer to see Endeavour go up. I remember when it was getting ready to be put into service. We heard about it in school because there was a national competition for elementary school students to choose the name of the new shuttle. Since my dream job as an elementary age kid was to be an astronaut, I really paid attention that day.

So it's time to start planning. I was looking at the shuttle and launch schedule online and there are plenty of opportunities to get to Florida and check this out. One of the times Endeavour is slated to go up is in February of 2010. This is conveniently close to somebody's birthday, so I think we should make a party out of it.

Ames is turning 27 everyone! Come celebrate at Cape Canaveral! If you want to come, you're invited. I wish I could pay for everyone, but unfortunately it's going to be Dutch treat, unless I can find a way to befriend Bill Gates or Ellen DeGeneres or someone like that. I will be going though, so come if you like!

Why Endeavor? It obviously has special meaning. I hope it all works out.
