Language Barrier

Tonight, I served a family of five. The parents were both deaf. Their three kids helped me a lot with communication. To her credit, the mother did very well. She could read lips and speak, which I was very grateful for, and so I was trying to enunciate well and speak slightly slower.

I found myself really wishing that I had paid more attention to Signing Times though, especially when the father had a cookup that went back twice. I know that I've seen episodes that are very restaurant applicable. I found myself using my hands as I spoke anyway, though I'm guessing it was just jibberish to them.

But hey, I was able to sign a little bit, and I'm kind of proud that I was able to ask them if they wanted more bread or water with my hands, and spell out my name. So I offer my gratitude to the Vernon's. Thanks for helping me a little bit with the language barrier!

No prob! You can borrow Signing Time any time you would like. They don't get watched that much anymore. :(
