Defying Gravity

Something has changed within me,
something is not the same,
I'm through with playing by the rules of someone else's game...

I recently saw the musical "Wicked." Loved it! I've been listening to the soundtrack like it was my job. I enjoyed the story very much. And as I do with a lot of things, I have been thinking quite a bit about the characters and such and what I came away with. The thing that stands out to me most is that it's all about perspective. The Wicked Witch was framed, and it turns out, she's not really wicked. "Good" is a point of view. It's always been amazing to me that someone who is different is considered bad. Why do we put that spin on it?

Look at Susan Boyle. What mold did she fit? Can't you just see the judgment written across the audience's faces? But give her a chance, and she brings tears to your eyes.

Different is just different. I'm a fan of variety. I know that I want to walk my own path, at my own pace, in whatever shoes I want to wear (and I'm not girly, so you know I'll be wearing my sneakers). Because I know that this is what I want, I'm going to afford you the same opportunity.

I think there are three sides to every story...
there's yours,
there's mine,
and there's truth.

I know I've been on this kick lately. It's because it's important to me. I believe that everyone deserves a place and a chance. There's still room for compassion in this world. We just have to work a little harder to find it.

And now, I'm flipping over to iTunes..."Wicked" anyone?
As someone told me lately,
everyone deserves a chance to fly!
And if I'm flying solo,
at least I'm flying free,
to those who ground me,
take a message back from me,
tell them how I am defying gravity!

Hey Amy! You are such a fantastic writer. I was so glad to see that you loved wicked. Al and I are going to London in a while and we have tickets to go and see it. I am so excited!

You totally rock! It would be a dreary world if everyone was the same. Some don't understand to have all the marvelous things we have (in the technology field, in the medical field, etc.) we need people who are different from us. We should appreciate everyone for the good part they bring into our lives.
